Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery Houston
Puffy lower eyelids, or “bags”, are a sign of aging that every woman fears. Fortunately, Dr. Hsu & Dr. Crosby offer blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift surgery to combat it. The positive effects can last up to an astonishing fifteen years, and patients are thrilled with their rejuvenated look. The surgery removes sagging skin and fat deposits from both the upper and lower eyelids, resulting in a much more youthful appearance. The best candidates for this surgery generally are men and women 30 years and older.
Dr. Hsu or Dr. Crosby will first mark the places where incisions will be made, following the natural lines and contours of the face to minimize scarring. During the procedure, fat, skin, and even muscle may be removed to achieve the desired results. The whole procedure can take up to three hours, with sedation and local anesthesia being used to minimize discomfort. Generally performed as an out-patient procedure, patients who undergo eyelid surgery are able to return home the same day.
In younger patients it now is possible to remove fat from the lower lids by employing a procedure known as transconjunctival blepharoplasty. This procedure consists of making incisions inside the lower eyelid that leave no visible scar. This procedure works best on younger patients whose skin is elastic.
Patients can expect some mild pain, which is easily treated with oral medications. Where there is bruising or swelling in the affected areas, keeping the head elevated, especially while sleeping, is crucial to help control it. Recovery time is approximately three weeks, after which normal activities and exercise may be resumed. In general, normal social activities may be resumed in fourteen days, with the use of makeup to conceal the incision lines. Scars will be either on the inside of your eyelid or hidden in the crease and typically fade very quickly.
Of course, as with any major medical procedure, there are certain risks associated with eyelid surgery, which Dr. Hsu will address with you in detail before the procedure.Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery 12:00 pm
